A Little Bit About Me
If there was a snowstorm and I had to be stuck in one place it'd be a tough call between the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Library of Congress. How about you?
I love learning about life, people and different perspectives. My favorite three role models (outside of our Prophet PBUH) are Malcom X (for his courage and unwavering faith), Amelia Earhart (for her sense of adventure and ambition) and Mary McLeod Bethune (for her desire to improve the condition of a people and make the world a better, happier place).
I can usually be found doing yoga, debating politics, swimming, taking a road trip, hiking, trying a new restaurant or watching a movie. I also love good books that delve deep into the human experience. Friends and family are important to me and I try to bring joy as much as possible to other peoples lives. I enjoy a good, intellectually stimulating conversation discussing the meaning of life, but also have a practical side to me that values a good work ethic and devotion to a higher cause.
I would like to meet someone who is kind, generous, honest, positive and dependable; someone who can talk about real things, but also enjoy life with a sense of humor. Someone who has his priorities properly aligned and strives to live by them. Someone who understand that being kind to your family members and keeping family relations is important, even if at times it may be challenging and that we ultimately don't do things for appreciation but for Allah's pleasure. Most importantly, he must be a Muslim striving to perfect his faith whose actions are governed by a love for God, someone who follows the five pillars and is always interesting in learning new things. I'm looking for someone who is God conscious of the fact that our actions are accountable to Him. So we must live our lives in a way where our actions (big or small) benefit the world and benefit our soul. Someone who tries like me and isn't perfect.
Religiously, I would probably say I am mostly moderate. Some of the modern scholars I like to learn from are Zaid Shakir, Hamza Yusuf, Omar Suleiman and Dr. Sherman Jackson etc. I strive to follow the five pillars and most of all I strive to have good character traits. This is the most important to me, both in myself and my mate.
Below are my 3 important traits:
1. Kind a really good person who people are like, Wow, what a guy! Someone whose values I strive to emulate.
2. Has his act together educated, has a solid profession and knows where he wants to go in life (also nice if he's passionate about it).
3. Deep can discuss intellectual things about life, questions things, can have real, honest, open conversations.
Qualities that are not fitting for me:
1. Mean sarcasm/cynical says jokes a lot of time as supposedly funny but I think they are insulting and mean insensitive.
2. Stubborn/inflexible unwillingness to change or adapt and/or grow.
3. Overly critical notices bad over good, doesn't recognize or acknowledge good things.
Nice bonuses, but not required:
1. Does/interested in community service loves helping people and volunteers in his local community to improve the lives of people.
2. Funny! I put this as a bonus because its a nice plus when your significant other can make u laugh at silly things, funny situations in a non-mean or teasing way, laughter out of love.
3. Passionate If they have their own passions, interests, hobbies they are interested in life in a different way other than just their profession. I think its really cool when other people have their own interests too and pursue those.
Finally, best matches for me would be U.S. born guys, guys who have been in the U.S. since they were very young, reverts and I'm open to any background, ethnicity. Prefer guys that are: divorced, divorced with children, who are open to adoption. Lastly, someone who is able to move, as for the near future, I need to stay where Im at.
