A Little Bit About Me
I became a Muslim in 1969 which is the best thing I have done in this life. I am retired/but employed as a substitute teacher because I still want to help young folks. Living on a farm in the desert for the past 25 years, I breed and raise sheep, goats, and horses and hold classes on homesteading, horsemanship, and farming for school groups, and the community. I am a lifelong advocate of eating healthy, raising and growing food, juicing, and working outside in the yard. I am an energetic old lady and hard to keep up with...I do most of the work by myself, with the help of my youngest who still lives at home, and a couple of black cowboys who stop by to do the heavy lifting when I need them. I am currently re-reading the Hobbit, enjoy going to the movies - loved Django Unchained. I have seen Les Miserables 3 times already - twice the new movie, and once on stage. I used to sing opera professionally, and love the classics. I am a nerd. Current projects include working on upholstering an arm chair, staining an antique desk, designing a mosaic for a wall outside on my pool wall, and a collage that will go on the wall behind my sofa. I am learning how to spin both cotton and wool, and how to tan goat hides. I enjoy working on functional art. Lately, I have been thinking I might write a couple of children's books about kids living on a farm.
