A Little Bit About Me
Bismillah... I converted to Islam when I was 16. This is my fourth Ramadan. I converted shortly after my older brother and along with several of my close cousins and friends. I grew up in a violent neighborhood and realized that knowledge and wisdom were the only ways to help my people. I converted to Islam from atheism and have since dedicated nearly all my thoughts to Islam. That said, I hope I didn't sound melodramatic and serious. I'm a pastry chef and a line cook. My grangdma was a baker and I remember her being up early in the morning and smelling her sweetbreads and things and decided then I was going to be a baker/pastry chef/cook so long as I worked with food. I'm the pastry chef for the restaurant I currently work for. I am a student and studying history is a passion for me. Though I am a cook, it does not make a lot of money and I plan on travelling to north africa to study arabic and french (I'm currently studying french). Then japanese afterward. I already speak spanish and I want to do something with language. I read a lot. Maybe to a fault because my friends and family always complain that I carry a book everywhere even if we go to someone's house or the theater. (I'm not rude about it, you just never know when you'll have some time). What else?... I love movies. My father collects movies (he has hundreds) and I grew up watching all his favorites (he has good taste). I have a taste for good martial arts movies and horror and things like The Illusionist (my favorite movie) and Peaceful Warrior (the kind that make you think). I write poetry. Since I was young and sometimes I go back and read things from when I was way younger and can't believe my own idiocy. I also enjoy spoken word poetry and go to poetry slams and perform sometimes. I don't know what else to say and I've rambled enough. I'll leave it at this. Assalamu alaikum.
