A Little Bit About Me
I think arranged marriage is incredibly romantic. "Love marriage is like hot soup that cools down. Arranged marriage is like cold soup that heats up." First, you're strangers, then you become friends, and eventually, inshallah, you fall in love. The butterflies and all that junk are free to develop organically without having to be stale or forced.
My father is Muslim and my mother is Buddhist, so I am some kind of alchemy of the two. I do not find the marriage of the two religions to conflict with the other. Islam and Buddhism are both based in intention and goodness, so they blend well.
I will study Women's and Gender Studies and plan on becoming a certified feminist. I am not of South Asian descent. My father is Syrian and Turkish while my mother has distant Irish and French heritage. I have a pounding, deep connection with desi culture and have since I could remember. Maybe it was watching DDLJ with my cousins or maybe it was my mother's Buddhist faith, but whatever it is, it is my passion. I taught myself how to speak Urdu and am very proud of that fact. I can't go a week without listening to my favorite NPR podcasts or reading from my many books of short stories on shelf or dancing like crazy to some Bollywood tunes.
