A Little Bit About Me
I reside in Orinda Hills, near the city of Berkeley, in sunny California.(USA). I am a Business Manager and an Educator by profession, and a graduate of University of California , Berkeley in the field of Psychology. I have a variety of interests and am comfortable in almost any situation. My friends consider me a very balanced person with a good mix of eastern and western values. I deeply admire the Pakistani and Muslim tradition of respecting the elders, family values, helping the neighbor and the community, and loyalty and faithfulness in relationships.
At the same time, I think the western values of freedom of expression, independent ideas, women' s equality and the environmental movement have a great deal of merit. I love to travel, have an appreciation for the arts and classics, yet I can get silly at times, act like a teenager, and enjoy life to its fullest. I would love to share, with someone special, the beautiful sunsets of San Francisco, the eclectic culture of Berkeley and the colorful life of the Bay Area in California.
I am quite old-fashioned when it comes to commitment and respect to one's partner, and am quite serious about settling down with someone exceptional. I think respect for each other is fundamental in marriage, without respect love and companionship cannot foster.
I was born in Karachi ( Pakistan ), and belong to a Memon business family. I am the second youngest of seven children. My parents and two of my siblings have passed away. Two of my brothers and one sister are in Pakistan . All married. My brothers and sister are quite well settled in Pakistan . All my bhabis (sister-in-laws) come from diverse backgrounds. The eldest bhabi is memon, my middle bhabi is actually from Lahore , the youngest one is from a urdu speaking family, and my bhabi who is here is Spanish American.
I have been in the U.S. for close to twenty years, I came here as a teenager. My brothers and sister in Karachi , don't have much of a desire to come here. They are quite well settled there, I on the other hand love to travel, explore new things, try new ideas, learn new philosophies, so here I am near the City by the Bay.
I have a keen artistic side to me, and I consider myself quite sensual, so many times in the 9 to 5 rat race we forget to admire simple beauty of nature, like the beautiful cherry blossoms that sprung right in front of my house in February, or the bright yellow of the newly flowered mustard in the fields right before the freeway entrance in late spring, or the crimson beauty of the falling leaves in fall. Sometimes on my way back from work I take an unfamiliar exit, take a few minutes and admire a gorgeous sunset, or plan a moonlit walk after dinner. I would rather light up the fire place and snuggle with a good book than watch television. I do, however, love foreign movies, French, Italian, Indian, Russian, Czech, Argentinean. I find it pleasurable to see how different cultures think. Different cognitive processes bring a different perspective to this mystery-- we call life.
Poetry is also a way to look at life. When I read Rumi or Kahlil Gibran, its a treat for the soul. When I hear Kent Nagano or Ali Akbar Khan, it is a treat to the ears, and when I watch Merce Cunningham, or Alvin Ailey, it is a treat to the eyes, and when I see a beautiful smile on a child, it is the ultimate treat, because in a smile of a child, you can see the divine.
I also happened to admire intellectual lectures, ballet, symphony, broadway musicals, stage plays, and artistic dance reviews.
When not occupied with business, intellectual, or artistic activities, I make time to play some tennis, swim, work out in the gym, or camp out or hike in the mountains.
Currently I am a founder of an educational consulting company with the purpose of attracting and helping impoverished students from inner city areas to attain college education.
I have noticed that personal relationship introductions start to look like job resumes. May be because we derive so much of our Identity from the work we do. So, let me side track, and tell you a little bit about what I am looking for....

What I Am Looking For
I am looking for a person who could be my best friend and who could laugh about life, find playfulness in everything life has to offer. A sincere, warm hearted person who has a full capacity to love. I am not talking about just romantic love here.......... but love for all human kind. Love for this earth and planet. Love for the not so fortunate. Love for even the ones we don't like. I think if I was to be thankful to Allah for a single most important blessing he has granted us, it would be our capacity to love. A friend once described me as a .."yuppie with a hippie heart". I thought it was quite fitting. (After all, I am from Berkeley ). We, who live in the first world, can do so much good for the third world and people who are not so well off. Things come so easy to us, and we are so spoiled that we forget other peoples pain. I would consider myself very fortunate, if I can find a life partner who is less interested in what Brand of car I drive, and more interested in how can we make this world a better place to live for all human kind. Ideally my life partner would be social welfare, and community development oriented.
I live a very good life, and now it is time to share it with someone special,(please note the age is 46, not 36, the stats won't let me correct it) so here I am sitting on the Internet, starting or at least trying to start a new chapter in my life.
