A Little Bit About Me
It's tricky to condense 'you' into a few paragraphs but I've tried to summarise the key bits below anyways in the hope that it gives a small taste of who I am and what matters to me insha'allah.
I'm the eldest in a family of five from Singapore, ethnically Indian and a bit of Chinese--but we mostly speak English. I trained as an urban planner in New York and London and current work in urban planning after spending a few years in international business development--which I enjoyed as I was able to travel and pick up foreign languages for work alhamdullilah. I'm fluent in Malay and German and am studying Arabic now. I hope to get to an intermediate level of Arabic so that surahs trigger me to remember their meanings.
I read anything and everything, particularly biographies, science, history, politics and DIY books. Other major passions of mine are photography, design and architecture, cats and travelling, especially to places with smaller towns and lots of nature (I live in the city).
Outside my job, the other 'identity' I enjoy most is my work with children and youths. I've been doing so for the past decade and currently volunteer with a children's home here.
Personality-wise, I'm calm and organized and I'm working towards being a more grounded Muslim iA. Over the last 5 years, I've been studying with Qibla, Seekers Guidance and now with Shaykh Akram at Cambridge Islamic College--with the main intent that I understand the background of why I believe what I believe, and do what I do. As someone who studied and now works in a non-Muslim environment, I find it crucial that you know what you stand on (and so you can explain it to others). It's also a useful knowledge base to educate children iA.
Ok, those are the basics about me. I believe if both parties are sincere in wanting to know more about each other, it doesn't hurt to drop me a message. I'll write back to answer whatever questions arise iA.
What I Am Looking For
Looking for a sister who is laid back and patient, with a good sense of humour (always an asset in a relationship!) and a genuine desire to work together to get to know each other, develop ourselves and raise a family in a Islam. Given my mixed heritage, I'm somewhat a-cultural, so would be most comfortable with someone who wasn't too wedded to culture too and was brought up or currently lives as a Muslim in a western environment.
Looking for someone who gets along well with and enjoys being with family and likes to keep improving herself, e.g. someone resilient enough to learn from mistakes without resorting to flaring tempers, and strives to keep on improving. Someone who reads and enjoys intellectual conversation would be ideal!
The rest are bonuses--similar interests, a willingness to live overseas, tolerance/love for cats (ideally), someone who's not glued to TV, etc. :)
