Although our vigilant administrators check out every profile on the service before approving it, it's a terrible shame that not everyone who uses Single Muslim is genuine. Some people are looking for casual promiscuous relations, others are after your money. Each day we remove a good handful of accounts before they even make it onto the website, however there are a few who slip through. It's here where we need your help. By reporting misuse on the service you can help to maintain the high quality of the service you've come to expect.

How to spot a 'fake' or 'scammer'

Fakes, or scammers, as we like to call them, may come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They're not easy to spot straight away, but here are a few things to look out for:

• They ask you for money (read more)
  Scammers see an opportunity with your kind-hearted nature and typical Islamic compassion for the needy. They'll lead you into a false sense of security before asking you for a sum of money. They're very persistent and will chat to you for a while to gain your trust before telling you how they're in financial difficulty. Quite often they will tell you that they're from a financially sound background and just need 'helping out'. Often they will tell you they're studying or residing in Nigeria, which is a scamming hot-spot. They may also tell you that they're doing charity work. They'll probably end up asking you to send them a sum of money via Western Union or MoneyGram as these services are fast, secure and often untraceable. Most likely, you'll never hear from them again...
• They will tell you they're already married, or just looking for 'fun' (read more)
  Single Muslim is a serious matrimonial agency, and will not tolerate users abusing our service for unjust reasons, such as casual relations. Although the user's profile may seem genuine, they may later reveal that they're not looking for marriage at all. They may not even be a Muslim at all. This sort of behaviour and attitude is not tolerated on Single Muslim. As a UK service, we must abide by British law whereby polygamy is not legal. Our service therefore must not be used to find a second wife. Anyone like this must be reported to us immediately and will be removed from our service.
• Offensive language or inappropriate profile (read more)
  All profiles are checked thoroughly by our administrators when they are updated, however we cannot possibly check the contents of every message sent on the service. Nor would we choose to do so, as we at Single Muslim respect your privacy immensely. If users are offensive or behaving in an inappropriate manner, they will be verbally warned and if their behaviour continues, removed from the service.
• People advertising their own products or services (read more)
  Quite often people see Single Muslim as a place where they can advertise their own products and services. This is not the case, and in accordance with our terms and conditions, anyone found to be doing so will be officially invoiced for the advertising they have done. If you would like to advertise on our service, please don't hesitate to go through the correct channels and contact us first to discuss your needs.
• Other things to look out for include:
  • The user is from a country other than where they say they are from
  • Anyone stating they are under 18, the minimum age to use our service
  • Anyone looking for a partner under the age of 18
  • Any non-Muslims or people not genuinely interested in Islam
  • Anyone using someone else's profile without their permission
  • Anyone who is of a different gender to what their profile states
  • Anyone who is clearly lying, which you can prove

How to report a suspicious account

If you have come across a profile which gives you reason to be suspicious, please report this account to us so we can further investigate the user's actions. This process is totally anonymous, and the user will have no idea it was you who reported them.
